CHOCO Announces "Maavadiya Career Expo"

CHOCO toady announced an ambitious plan to host a career expo in Thinadhoo. This expo would be called "Maavadiya", a tribute to a local boat builder. The expo is expected to be held on 24-25 November 2009.

CHOCO states that "the opportunities for employers to meet with the potential employees are rare in the Maldives, especially in suburban and rural islands. Understanding the requirements of employers and the skills structure of the local labour market has been difficult due to lack of interaction and communication. Furthermore, educational opportunities that are available for the young people need to be informed, at a bit more personal level, face-to-face. The career fields that have a future in the Maldives, especially in the islands, need to be informed through an exposition of employers and educational institutions".

"Hence CHOCO is taking the initiative to organise a career expo in G.Dh. Thinadhoo, in November 24-25, 2009. The expo will be called Maavadiya, a tribute to the best boat builder in the island and is expected to be the first of many such expos to be run in future. Maavadiya would enable employers and educational institutions to interact with an attractive target crowd and market their organisations. It would be a great opportunity for employers and education providers and visitors as well, where each party would have something to gain".

CHOCO started seeking for participants today, and program proposals are being distributed today. CHOCO official said that they have already got two educational institutions who would participate in the expo. One of these institutions boast 7 universities from Malaysia. From the positive initial outlook, CHOCO expects a strong support for the program from the education and employment providers as well as visitors.
