CHOCO Installs the First Solar Street Light in Thinadhoo

CHOCO has installed the first solar street light in Thinadhoo today, 5 June 2011. It was installed to create awareness for renewable energy and foster faith in renewable energy among people. Furthermore, one of its intention is to mark the World Environment Day 2011.

The first solar street light, is first of many more to come, senior members CHOCO explained. CHOCO is about to embark on a major project will seek to change all street lights of Thinadhoo to solar powered lights. Furthermore, it is also a part of the Garden Island Vision.

The light was installed near the jetty area of Thinadhoo, around the corner of Dhiraagu Thinadhoo.

The light was donated and installed for CHCOO by a generous local company, C-Mos Pvt Ltd.

Cleaning Day 26th July 09

The cleaning day was planned to clean the island for the independence day of 2009. The cleaning included disposing garbage from private households with the corporation of the Thinadhoo island office. Households clean their houses on their own, as a part of the program and CHOCO disposes the garbage from all the households. Volunteers of CHOCO disposed more than 150 trucks of garbage within a span of just 3 days between 25th and 27th July 2009.

Tree Planting

Thinadhoo  The Garden Island is a vision of Choco aimed to increase the environmental awareness; to make the island green and shady; and also to provide an environmentally friendly and a pleasant place for residents and visitors. Under this project, a tree planting program was carried out in 26th June 2009. More than 500 trees were planted in Thinadhoo harbour and green area. This program was also carried out in collaboration with G.Dh. Atoll Education Centres nature club, in order to spread the love for our environment among young minds. Several other projects are planned under the Garden Island vision.
